The 1962 Dept. of Resources & Economic Development Plan for development of the State Park has just been posted to the downloads section of the web site. This document is a follow up to the 1958 development proposal that was also recently posted. This plan details what had been accomplished by 1962 and what the State believed the best course of action should be for building the State Park. A copy of the 1958 State Planning & Development Commission's study of how to develop the Pawtuckaway Lake area has been posted to the Downloads section of the web site. The study purposes to present the "most expeditious means of opening this area for development by either the state, the town of Nottingham, or private parties, or a combination of any of the same...". This document is the earliest formal plan proposing the building of a State Park on Pawtuckaway. This document was kindly provided to us by PLIA Member Henry Musial. The transcript of Governor King's 1966 dedication speech on the opening of Pawtuckaway State Park has just been posted to the Downloads section of the web site. Also included is a copy of the Background Information Sheet provided to the Governor by the Parks Division with facts and statistics about the parks history. This document provides some concrete dates about the State Park planning and development process that have thus far been only speculated about.
