NH Dam Division Temporarily Avoids Collapse Print E-mail

The State Legislature has passed bill HB 0283 to temporarily fund the States almost bankrupt Dam Maintenance Division. Changes to the way the state taxed hydropower generation significantly decreased the dam maintenance departments revenue. Some of the long term proposals for solving the crisis include taxing shorefront property owners and electricity surcharges. The department has received some one-time funding to continue to operate this year but, the issue will no doubt be raised again in the near future. New Hampshire Fish & Game have published a new guide to help residents stay safe out on the ice this winter. The "Safety On The Ice" brochure provides guidelines for determining whether the ice is safe and simple techniques for getting to safety if you do fall through the ice. Do You Have Your Safe Boating Certifictate Yet? Print E-mail

Effective January 1, 2008 no person 16 years of age or older, may operate a powerboat with an engine in excess of 25 horsepower (including electric powered motors) on the public Waters of New Hampshire without a valid safe boating education certificate. If you have not taken the course yet, you may not be legal driving your boat next summer. The PLIA would like to know if members are interested in having the course taught in Nottingham this spring. This is a very convenient way to comply with this mandatory requirement.

NH Senate Defeats Child Safety Bill Print E-mail

The New Hampshire state Senate effectively killed HB 1506 by tabling the legislation, which would have required children twelve years and under to wear personal flotation devices while on a boat. The current law requires that children under the age of 5 wear personal flotation devices on boats. See
