The 2006 PLIA Annual Meeting was very exciting this year: lots of people, information, progress and enthusiasm. It gave me a chance to speak with many members about the web site and get valuable feedback and ideas for moving the site forward. I was also really happy to see how many members would like to contribute to the site. Liz Kotowski is going to write a series of articles about the fascinating sport of cross-country orienteering. You’ll be amazed at what is involved with this sport. And, surprised how much these folks know about our State Park. Keep and eye out for this series in the Recreation section of “The Lake”. Photographer Robert Rydeen will be submitting some stories and photographs this month. Look for them in “The Lake” under Photos. He has captured some beautiful moments on the lake that I’m sure you will enjoy. Andrea Lawson and her children will be writing some Pawtuckaway Wildlife articles. Keep an eye out for their story on Ospreys in the wildlife section. Once again, if you have wildlife photos from the lake please email them to the web site for inclusion in a story. Randy Hale is working on an article about NH’s “rafting” law. NH has rules about more than two boats tying up together on the water. The law is unclear and, frankly, unknown by most boaters. Randy is going to get to the bottom of this. Look for his article in the Boating Safety section of “The Lake”. The Pawtuckaway History Project is in full gear. Through the efforts of members Nan Vigars, Peter Lyle, Donna Danis, and others we have 5 new interviews scheduled in the next month. And, two more interviews in the works. It takes about 15 hours of work to put each interview together for publication, so expect to see a new interview published every two weeks or so throughout the summer. Our new Co-Presidents, Donna Danis and Tom Duffy have agreed to provide a joint column titled: “He Said / She Said”. Donna’s world centers on kids and community, Tom’s on environmental and water quality issues. Ok, you two, get back to your corners, fight clean, and come out slugging! In other news, I finally got the newsletter emailing system working. Sorry about the blank emails you may have received, this system generates these when a member is added to each mailing list. I can’t control this but the good news is, from now on you will get the latest communication from the PLIA by email. If you think that is the bad news, just send me an email at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it and I’ll remove you from the list! Until next month, that’s it from the net. Jeff Gurrier |
