On June 16, 2006 at 5:45 AM  I slid my bright red Pungo kayak into the lake and literally skated across its pristine mirroring surface.  An amazing spectacle greeted me as I glided toward the other end of the Dolloff Dam.  The lake was clear and flat; not even a hint of breeze.  Numerous bugs wove their paths and trails along the top of water.  Pollen settled on the same surfaces.  Bubbles marked the sites where the paddles had entered water.

The spectacular vision was of the perfect mirror image all around the entire lake.  The reflection was so thick and dramatic that I could not in the shallow water see the rocks nor my treasured views of fishes.  It was a psychedelic experience.  I could not tell which was the lake and which were the trees and rock formations.

I was mesmerized.  I was paddling along  an enchanted forest mirrored in the water’s edge.  Our tee shirts proclaim our piece of paradise.  Well, that morning, I was in heaven.  And the lake was indeed that paradise.
