A major source of pollution in NH lakes is due to increased phosphorous levels. NH Lakes Association puts out a great educational brochure that covers the sources of unwanted phosphorous , and some things that can be done to help prevent the situation. One of the things that we, as residents, can do to help is to "Not Feed the Water Birds" . You may say " Well, the ducks and geese are going to deposit their waste into the lake whether I feed them or not." This is true, but the food that these animals select naturally is not full of artificial ingredients and chemicals that will be deposited into the lake upon digestion. So, no matter how cute and tempting they are to feed, try to resist and let nature take it's course the natural way.
