The transcript of Governor King's 1966 dedication speech on the opening of Pawtuckaway State Park has just been posted to the Downloads section of the web site. Also included is a copy of the Background Information Sheet provided to the Governor by the Parks Division with facts and statistics about the parks history. This document provides some concrete dates about the State Park planning and development process that have thus far been only speculated about.

Governor King finished his speech with this passage:

"Long after all of us have gone / among these hills and valleys / in these quiet woodlands / and across the quiet waters / will ring the happy laughter of families / as they seek respite from the harsh duties of life / and find refreshment / and recreation / in these great beauties of nature. To their happiness / we dedicate this great new State Park -- Pawtuckaway. "
