Pawtuckaway Lake Association

The 2007 Pawtuckaway Lake Improvement Association Annual Meeting informed members about a number of challenges facing our lake. The Civic Panel discussed the spring floods and the effects that water run off have had on water quality. The Pawtuckaway Lake Action Committee discussed their ongoing efforts to remedy lake water quality problems through education and mitigation programs. These programs are designed to teach homeowners methods to stop groundwater runoff from flowing freely into the lake lowering the water quality. Longer term projects include corrective actions on large scale erosion sites and tributary phosporus overloading sources.

 Jared Teutsch, director of the NH Lakes Association, explained the threat of exotic weed infestations with detailed statistics and photographs of infested lakes. He also explained how the NH Dept of Environmental Services and the NH Lakes Assoc. have been working with lakes to reduce the possibility of infestation through their Lake Host Program.  

This year the Pawtuckaway Kids program offered a simultaneous Kids Meeting run in an adjacent room. This exciting event featured a New Hampshire Wildlife presentation from the Squam Lake Science Center. The presentation showcased the wildlife that inhabit the Granite State and included live animals. There were also other activities like knot tying and word games to entertain the kids while their parents attended the annual meeting. In addition, a local artist guided the kids through a drawing class.
