Who will become the 2005 holder of the coveted and legendary* Pawtuckaway Ice-Out Trophy? (*note, see below)
Register your guess now and stay tuned to find out what date the Official Pawtuckaway Ice-Out Jury declares to be Ice-Out 2005 and whether the first really warm day is early or late this year.
(Ice-out is defined as when the surface of the lake is 90% ice-free, as measured by the Pawtuckaway Ice-Out Jury. "Really warm" means, whether the temp hits 70 degrees F before or after the average for the past 20 years.)
All Guesses must be registered by March 27.
Here's an important difference from last year.
Guesses will be entered this year by clicking on your choice on the Guessing Page. Your Guess will then be authenticated (ie, have you already voted, and is that Guess still available), and then entered into the Guess Chart.
There will be two Guessing periods, and everyone can enter a Guess in each one. So you can have up to two Guesses in the running.
The first period is up to Mar 24.
And the final period, Mar 25 to Mar 27.
Final Guesses must be entered by midnight on Mar 27.
There are a few rules. Make your two-part guess at the Guessing Page.
This year's winner will
- become the holder-of-record of the trophy,
- receive a swell prize from from our sponsor Mountain Road Trading Post
- and most important, will have bragging-rights for the entire year.
Prize: Grand prize for best two-part guess. Consolation prize to the person guessing Ice-Out correctly, but 70 degree day wrong.
Check back here often for reports on prizes, jury members and the general progress of Pawtuckaway Ice-Out 2005.
Jack Hodgson, Ice-Out 2005 Chairman
* Note: Alright, so this is actually only the third year we've ever done this, but we're pretending that it is part of a long tradition. One day that will be true. You'll see.
